Wrestling was introduced to Manheim back in the mid 1920's by the Bishop family.  It was in 1923  the late Austin Bishop, became the 1st wrestler in Lancaster Co., when he stepped on the mat wrestling for the late great Uncle Charlie Mayser, who just started wrestling at Franklin & Marshall.  Austin scored a quick fall and this was the start of wrestling in the area.  The following year the Bishop family brought horsehair mats to the Summy House stable area and there offered free instruction to all interested boys.

Manheim's first wrestling team was the 1926-1927, coached by Paul Stern.  They only had one match that year and it was a 15 to 12 win over F&M Academy.  That one win, would blossom and grow into a wrestling program that has endured and prospered for 75 years.

Today the wrestling tradition at Manheim Central is still very much alive with excitement and enthusiasm.  The proud tradition of 75 years is evident as Manheim Central is listed in the top 15 high school wrestling teams in the United States for the most wins.

Manheim Central still leads the way for its proud wrestling tradition not only in Pennsylvania but in the history of high school wrestling in the United States .
